A special place with a long history

Buitenplaats Ureterp is located on Akkemuois Bult, a small plateau whose origins go back to the last Ice Age, around 150,000 years ago. This boulder clay ridge, formed by advancing land ice, has been used in many different ways through the centuries.

In the early Middle Ages it served as a burial ground, and later it took on a darker role as a place of execution.

Today, Akkemuois Bult is above all a place of natural beauty and calm. Walking over the ridge, you can feel something of the age and atmosphere of the landscape while enjoying wide views over the Frisian countryside. The place has an almost magical pull and has inspired many local stories and legends over the years.
